About the organisation

The Odisha Government Press, a service organisation of State of Odisha established in the year 1936, with an aim to meet the Printing, Stationery & Machinery needs of all departments of Govt. and Govt. Offices of the entire State. Until 1936, Govt. Press was under the jurisdiction of erstwhile Bihar-Odisha State. In the year 1936, when Orissa became a separate State, some machineries, equipments and personnel were transferred from Patna to Cuttack. A tiny press started in a small room at Choudhury Bazar, Cuttack. Subsequently, when the demand increased, it was felt to develop the Press to a bigger entity to cope-up the increasing demand of printing. So the Govt. Press was shifted to Buxibazar and started functioning in a big building. At a later stage, the press was shifted from Buxibazar to Madhupatna during the year 1977, and started functioning in its own building. In the year 1981, the Govt. Press was declared as Heads of Department and named as “Directorate of Printing, Stationery & Publication”. Now it comes under the administrative control of Commerce Department, Govt. of Orissa. For smooth discharging of printing and other service responsibilities, the Odisha Government Press is having four major Units viz. Press Proper (PP) Unit, Forms Press Unit, Publication and Sales Unit and School of Printing & Allied Trades Unit.
